What’s a “Re-Skin?”
A re-skin is just that. We remove your old skin and replace it with a new one. The package includes:
new decking
new fascia
new stair system
new railing
reinforcing your current framing
Two-thirds the cost of a full demo and new deck.
We just like to say “re-skin”

In this case we simply removed the rotten deck boards and doubled the joist. We then laid down a butyl joist tape to provide water shed.

Re-Skin and Wedging your Grid
Here you can see that we have installed the deck boards and inserted Camo Edge Clips on each joist between each deck board.
We then temporarily fasten large boards parallel to the deck boards about a half inch spacing. Important: You need two-three spots to add wedge blocking and they should be evenly spaced. We are wedging 12 foot long boards and are evenly spaced at three points.
We then use pre-cut wedges to push the grid (deck boards with clips installed) tight.
The point here is not to get it super tight. But to have good looking even spacing all around. And to check your measurement to the house. The reason we are so worried about this step is for the last deck board against the house.
If you can help it you want to avoid a “RIP” (cutting the long way) on a deck board but with re-skins you are at the mercy of pre-existing framing. If you take measurements in two-three places between the house and the deck board, you can use this moment to make any adjustments to ensure an even rip and the house.
