When you're ready to install your under deck waterproofing system, there are two main types of styles to choose from. Both styles come with their own set of advantages and disadvantages that you should consider carefully. Today, we will explore some of the positive aspects and some of the drawbacks associated with both systems. First, let’s discuss: Why would you need to waterproof under your deck in the first place? Additionally, why does it matter which specific system you choose for your project?

Why water proof a deck

Most homes in Michigan are constructed with a walk-out or daylight basement located in the back yard. This creates an outstanding opportunity to add a deck; enhancing outdoor living space. but also providing a entertainment space underneath with shade and protection from rain.

Some decks, particularly those that are low to the ground and situated in areas of high shade and can be especially susceptible to moisture damage over time. By investing in a waterproof frame, you can significantly extend the life of a deck that might otherwise be endangered by the elements.

Considering the daylight basement, where the clearance is not tall enough to comfortably serve as an entertainment area, you may want to consider utilizing the space for storage. Waterproofing a 4-foot-high deck can provide a fantastic dry area that is perfect for stowing away lawn furniture, blackstones, and outdoor cushions, keeping them safe and in good condition for future use.
